Welcome to the Belmont and District Council of Churches website

We are a fellowship of Churches in East Belfast which accept the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour.

Our church congregations reside in the area of C S Lewis’s birthplace, Belmont – East Belfast. St Mark's Parish Church, Dundela, with its strong links to C S Lewis, is one of our members.

The Council was formed in 1971 and in 2011 we celebrated our 40th Anniversary.

Forty Years ago Belfast was a very different place to what it is today and so were inter-Church relationships. The Council had a challenging time in its formative years but firmly believed in working together and that having joint acts of worship was the way forward. Despite many challenges the Council pressed forward and the fruits of those endeavours are evident today, as we enjoy meaningful engagement and celebrate all that our faith in Jesus means to us.

We honour all those whose dedicated service and commitment to unity has got us to where we are today.

Prayer for Unity

God our Father, in the name of Jesus
and in the strength of the Holy Spirit,
we commit ourselves to you and to one another,
to live, work and pray as one body in Christ.
To do nothing apart and that we can do together
and to do together what we cannot do apart.
Give us vision, give us courage, give us joy
that the world may believe that Jesus is Lord,
to your eternal Glory. Amen.
